EMDR Intensives

EMDR Intensives

Sometimes, having more time can create more space for therapeutic work.

EMDR Intensives offer an extended format for EMDR therapy, allowing more time for preparation, processing, breaks, and thoughtful closure within a single appointment. Rather than stopping because a traditional 50-minute session has come to an end, an intensive provides a longer therapeutic window when this format is clinically appropriate.

An intensive does not mean spending several hours continuously processing difficult memories. Sessions are paced collaboratively and may include preparation and resourcing, identifying and assessing treatment targets, EMDR processing, breaks, grounding, reflection, and integration.

Who might benefit from an EMDR Intensive?

An intensive may be worth considering if you:

  • have a specific experience, memory, or theme you would like to work on

  • find that traditional sessions sometimes end just as meaningful processing is beginning

  • prefer having a larger block of uninterrupted time for therapeutic work

  • have already been doing EMDR and would like an extended session for a particular treatment target

  • have limited availability for regular weekly appointments

Intensives can be used as part of ongoing therapy or, when appropriate, as a focused course of EMDR treatment.

Is an intensive right for everyone?

No — and longer is not necessarily better.

For some people, shorter sessions with more time between appointments for integration are the better therapeutic choice. Factors such as your current stability, available supports, treatment goals, trauma history, dissociation, and ability to remain within a manageable range of activation all help determine whether an intensive format is appropriate.

Before scheduling an intensive, we will discuss your goals, relevant history, readiness for EMDR, and whether an extended session is likely to support your treatment.

You do not need to push through distress or complete a particular amount of processing for an intensive to be successful. We will work at a pace that respects your nervous system throughout the session.

Intensive Options

Half-Day EMDR Intensive
Up to 4 hours | $600

An extended block of individualized EMDR therapy with time for preparation, targeted processing, breaks as needed, grounding, and deliberate closure.

Full-Day EMDR Intensive
Approximately 6 hours of clinical time, with scheduled breaks | $850

A longer format that allows us to work with greater continuity while still building in time for rest, regulation, nourishment, and integration throughout the day.

Not sure which format is right for you?

You don't need to decide on your own.

A complimentary 15-minute consultation is available to ask questions about EMDR Intensives and determine the appropriate next step. If an intensive does not appear to be the best fit, we can discuss other therapy options that may better support your needs.

Assessment and Readiness for EMDR Intensives

EMDR Intensives are not booked without first completing an assessment and determining whether an extended treatment format is clinically appropriate.

Before an intensive, we will review your current concerns, treatment goals, relevant history, existing supports, and previous experience with therapy. Screening for dissociation is also an important part of this process.

Some people experience dissociation as a way of coping with overwhelming experiences, sometimes without recognizing it as dissociation. When significant dissociative symptoms are present, EMDR may require additional preparation, stabilization, modification, or a different pace of treatment. In some circumstances, an intensive format may not be the most appropriate option.

The purpose of this assessment is not to determine whether you are “good at” EMDR or ready enough for therapy. It helps us choose a treatment structure that supports safety, pacing, and your ability to remain present and connected throughout the work.

If an intensive is not recommended, this does not necessarily mean that EMDR is unsuitable for you. We may instead recommend additional preparation, shorter EMDR sessions, a phased approach to treatment, or another therapeutic option based on your individual needs.

EMDR Intensives are therefore offered following assessment and are not available for direct online booking.
